I'm a Cuban American author-illustrator, born and raised in Miami, Florida, and now living in Austin, Texas, with my husband, daughter, and our sweet dog. My love of storytelling and illustration began with my Abuelito, Virgilio. During our Sunday family gatherings, he would tell stories from his childhood and bring them to life with quick sketches on a napkin. Watching those drawings appear felt like magic, and from that moment on, I knew I wanted to become an artist. I earned my degree in illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design and have been fortunate to write and illustrate children's books that celebrate family, culture, and everyday moments. My debut author-illustrated picture book, Baking With Mi Abuelita, was named one of Bank Street's Best Children's Books of the Year, and my second book, My Cousin, the Quinceañera, was selected as a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Through my work, I hope children see themselves and their families reflected in stories filled with warmth, joy, and connection. These days, I'm also pursuing my certification to teach elementary art because I love helping children discover their creativity and confidence through making art. When I'm not writing or illustrating, you'll usually find me spending time with my family, exercising, or running on my favorite trails in Austin to recharge. I also cherish quiet hours in my studio, where I get to sketch, paint, or create new stories inspired by my childhood memories and the everyday adventures I share with my daughter.
